Woods, Lola Jean
Lola Jean Woods, 86, of Oelwein, died Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2012, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Visitation: from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, where there will be a parish Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery.
Lola Jean Weyant was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Florence (Sevey) Weyant. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1944. Lola Jean married Donald J. Woods on Dec. 29, 1949, in Fayette. Don died Jan. 25, 1993. She was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper for Woods Brothers Wholesale in Oelwein. Lola Jean was a lifelong Oelwein resident and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rosary Society. She was a strong Oelwein sports booster for her children and grandchildren for many years.
Lola Jean is survived by a son, Larry (wife Sue) Woods of Oelwein; daughter, Julie Woods of Oelwein; five grandchildren (Amanda Woods, Bryan Woods, Emily Woods, Patrick O'Donnell and Jenna Woods); and daughter-in-law, Marty Sorg of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Donald J. Woods on Jan. 25, 1993), son (Gary D. Woods on Aug. 19, 1998), two grandchildren (Abby Woods and John L. Woods and a brother (Francis Weyant).
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
