Woods, Ivanell (Kuehl)
Ivanell (Kuehl) Woods, 95, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a short illness. Ivanell was born in Elkader on Feb. 22, 1917, to Fred and Hilda (Tangeman) Kuehl. After graduating from Elkader High School, she attended Cosmetology School in Chicago and operated her own beauty shop in her home for 58 years.
She is survived by six children, Gary (Lois) Woods, Susan (John) Weldon, Cedar Rapids, Mary Davis (Michael), Anamosa, Steve (Dorothy) Woods, Mason City, Bill (Deb) Woods, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jean (Myron “Fred”) Meyer, Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Bennett, Cedar Rapids and Myrna McKenna, Irvine, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Kuehl, Elkader and Coralinn Kuehl, Frederick, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 60 years, Clarence Woods; son-in-law, Robert Davis; grandson, Bobby Woods; as well as her parents; four brothers; and a sister-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kingston Court Assisted Living, Elkader, where she resided the last nine years or to Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elkader, with the Rev. Paul R. Peters celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home and one hour before mass Thursday at the church.
Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader is in charge of arrangements.
