Wood, Madonna 'Donna'
Madonna “Donna” Wood, 88, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, at Oak Grove Church near Shellsburg, with Pastor Larry Rodgers officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 a.m. Monday until service time. Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Donna was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Derby, Iowa, to Earl and Della (Rash) Bass. On April 6, 1937, she married Thomas L. Raines in Preston, Ill. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1970. She married William D. Wood in Vinton on April 7, 1973. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1977.
Donna was employed for many years as a cook at the Iowa Braille & Sight Savings School and as a nurse's aide at Virginia Gay Hospital. She was a former member of the Assembly of God Church. Her faith was a very important part of her life and she loved to travel.
She is survived by her sister, Emma Lee Nielsen of Mission, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Patty (David) Raines Detwiler of Cedar Rapids; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Wesley Raines; two sisters; and two brothers.
A memorial fund has been established.
