Wombacher, Ina E. (Donham)
Ina E. (Donham) Wombacher, 90, of 1095 Silvercrest Circle, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Mercy Hospital Hospice Care with her family beside her. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A parish rosary will begin at 2:45 and a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Ina was born June 23, 1920, in Chanute, Kan., the daughter of Andrew W. and Florence A. (Camp) Donham. Graduating from University High School in 1937, she then attended Irish Business College. She was united in marriage to R.F. Jeff Wombacher on Aug. 28, 1940, in Fort Collins, Colo.
In the early years, Ina worked at Sears and Roebuck in downtown Iowa City as a department head. Upon her husband's return from World War II she devoted her life to her family of six while helping her husband run his small business.
She loved to dance, was an accomplished seamstress, an avid bridge player, Cubs fan and a devoted shoe shopper with her motto being “if it fits, buy two.”
Her loss of vision never deterred her from accomplishing her goals and enjoying life. Her care, concern and compassion for others was always her priority. She was loved and admired by all who came to know her.
Ina is survived by her children, Tamra Donohoe (Robert) of Iowa City, Jeffry Wombacher (Paula) of Irvine, Calif., Cindi Stevens (Robert Jr.) of Iowa City, David Wombacher (Jane) of Huxley, Iowa, Susan Shimon (special friend, Michael) of Lake Forest, Calif., and Mikel Wombacher (Nancy) of Iowa City; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Hartsock of Solon, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law, Gen Wombacher and Darlene Wombacher, both of Iowa City, and Rosella McNerney of Maryland.
Ina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Harold Donham; and two sisters, Alice Kent and Wilma Larson.
“Mom we love you, we will miss you, but Dad couldn't have gotten a better Christmas present.”
