Wolfe, JoAnn Jean
JoAnn Jean Wolfe, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, of cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, at St. Pius X Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Dave Ambrosy. Visitation will be one hour before the mass at the church on Monday. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include her children, Phil (Mary) Wolfe of Lincoln, Neb., Marcia (Jim) Buresh of Cedar Rapids, Ann (Randy) Pasker of Cedar Rapids, David Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, and Mike (Donna) Wolfe of Cedar Rapids; brother, Richard Lewis of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren, Dena, Russell, Anna, Francine, Brian (Jodi), Jamie (Carey), Chad, Olivia, Angela, Tessa, Katie Jo and Brandon; and three great-grandchildren, Blake Russell, Tanner James and Lexie Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; and brother, Clarence Guthrie.
JoAnn was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Florence (Clark) Guthrie. She married Russell Edward Wolfe on Nov. 3, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. Russell died June 19, 1997. JoAnn was employed with Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids for 33 years, retiring in 1992. She and Russ were charter members of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. She sang in the choir, was a receptionist, and volunteered in numerous capacities for the church. Her faith and her church played a vital role in her life.
JoAnn led a very active lifestyle; her interests included golf, bowling, and exercise. She took classes at the Rockwell Fitness Center, and her friends there held a special place in her heart. JoAnn and her husband loved to dance, and she was especially fond of family dinners, followed with a good card game.
JoAnn loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips with her husband, Russ. Some of their favorites were to Niagara Falls, Portland, San Francisco, Biloxi, and Lake Tahoe. In more recent years, she traveled to see her grandson, Chad, in New York, Chicago, and Key West.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Oncology Department at Mercy Medical Center, and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in JoAnn's memory.
