Roger J. Wisecup, 79, of Boone, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Boone County Hospital. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Mineral Ridge Cemetery, north of Boone. Friends may call at from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall, Boone. Visitation continues from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Roger was born on a farm south of Boone, on Aug. 6, 1933, the son of Leo and Velma (Nickell) Wisecup. He graduated from Boone High School in 1951. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On May 26, 1957, Roger married Mary Lee Herron in Boone. He worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power in Boone and became supervisor of the power plant. In 1986, the Boone plant closed and he transferred to Cedar Rapids to the Sixth Street Station as operation and maintenance supervisor until his retirement in 1989, after 35 years of service.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Boone; two sons, Roger (Shelly) Wisecup of Ankeny and their children, Erin and Mason, and Jay (Sandy) Wisecup of Sergeant Bluff and their children Emily, Thomas and Abby; a daughter, Teri Wisecup of Boone; two brothers, Leo (Sharon) Wisecup Jr. and Gary (Karen) Wisecup, both of Boone; and three sisters Jeanne (Dave) Patten of North Liberty, EmmaBelle (Lester) Johnson of Jewell and JoAnn (Darwin) Ray of Boone.
