Wise, Maxine Bascom

Maxine Bascom Wise, 85, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died March 21, 2010. Memorial services were held Saturday, March 27, at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ 85248. Burial will be at a later date in Salem Cemetery, Van Horne.

She was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Solon, Iowa, to Albert and Albia (Zimpfer) Bascom.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Anita) Wise, San Tan Valley, Ariz., Teresa “Teri” (Jim) Kiefer, Sun Lakes, Ariz., Joseph (Tammy) Wise, Tucson, Ariz., and Elise (Mike) Gum, Sun Lakes, Ariz. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Dorothy (Gerry) Carpenter, Ramona, Calif., Buzz (Karen) Bascom, Omaha, Ark., and Vernon (Sandy) Bascom, Vinton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Wise; grandson, Ryan Wise; brothers, Donald Bascom and Albert Bascom Jr.; and sisters, Helen Hartkemeyer, Hazel Humphrey, Ruth Bascom and Janet Bascom.

Her dog Sooner was her beloved companion. While living in Sun Lakes she loved playing Mahjongg and belonged to the Estrella Questers Antique Club.

She loved her family and friends. She always enjoyed her visits to Iowa. She was an extraordinary lady of great strength, spirit, humor and giving. She lived her life the wonderful way she did with style, dignity, class and humor.

A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of the Valley (Dobson Home), 1188 N. Dobson Rd., Chandler, AZ 85224.
