Winn, Delores A. 'Speed'
Delores A. “Speed” Winn, 74, of Walker, died Oct. 21, 2011, surrounded by her family, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker, by Father Ardel Barta. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker.
Delores Arlene Hepker was born Aug. 30, 1937, in Urbana, Iowa, to Walter and Leta Faye (Cumberland) Hepker, the youngest of 15 children. She graduated from Urbana School and was well known for her basketball skills. This earned her the nickname “Speed.” She married Burton Winn on June 4, 1957. She worked at Killian's department store, the Corner Tavern, and on the family farm.
She loved bowling, horseshoes, playing cards and getting together with family and friends.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Burton; children, Wayne (Rhonda), Rosemary (James) Kinley, Bradley (Gail) and Beth (Darrin) Silver; and grandchildren, Alison, Burton, Janey, Shaina, Brenna and McKenna. Also surviving are one sister, Maxine Relf; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and eight brothers.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Buchanan County Health Center and Cedar Valley Hospice for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Cedar Valley Hospice and Buchanan County Health Center.
