Winn, Alan William
IOWA CITY - Alan William Winn, 52, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Services will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Thursday, with Pastor David Aanonson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City.
Alan was born Jan. 18, 1958, in Platteville, Wis., to Delbert and Jeanette Winn. He graduated in 1976 from Belmont High School, Belmont, Wis. He attended the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, and graduated with honors earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was united in marriage to Janan Zierke on Oct. 22, 1983, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting, graduating with honors from Buena Vista University. He passed the CPA exam in 1986 and moved to Washington, Iowa, where he joined the CPA firm of Hensel, Latta and Harris. The firm later became Latta, Harris, Hanon & Penningroth L.L.P. Alan became a partner in 1996 and was instrumental in opening the Iowa City office.
He attended Christ the King Lutheran Church, where he was very involved in the congregation and was currently serving as council president. He was a member of the Iowa City Homebuilders Association and Cedar Rapids Homebuilders Association. Alan was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Iowa Society of Certified Public Accounts, and past president of the Southeastern Chapter of the Iowa Society of CPAs.
Alan is survived by his wife, Janan; daughters, Sarah and Emily; and his mother, Jeanette Winn, all of Iowa City; brothers, David (Janet) Winn of Red Bluff, Calif., and Philip “PJ” (JoAnn) Winn of Valrico, Fla.; sister, Nancy (Dennis) Alt of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert; and sister, Christine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children's Miracle Network or the Ronald McDonald House.
