Winch, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Winch, 80, of Buck Creek, died Wednesday evening, July 22, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Private family services will be held at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with interment in the Buck Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Edwin Moreano will officiate at the services.

Surviving are three children, the Rev. Marilyn Winch, Monticello, Diane Winch, Buck Creek, and Timothy Winch, Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, Heather Winch, Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Caryl Rasmussen, Ellensburg, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother; her husband, Lyle; a brother, Martin; a sister, Frances; and a stepbrother, James Brunt.
Elizabeth Ann Ward was born Jan. 5, 1929, at Eddyville, Iowa, the daughter of Jess E. and Agnes Gallagher Ward. Her mother died following her birth and she was raised by her father and stepmother, Kathryn Gallagher Brunt Ward. Elizabeth received her early education at Russell, Iowa. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines with the class of 1946. She worked at Equitable of Iowa for a brief time before continuing her education at Grandview College in Des Moines and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught first and second grade in the Central City Schools and later at Blairstown and at Fillmore Elementary School in Cedar Rapids. Elizabeth Ward and Lyle Winch were married Aug. 13, 1950, at the Mondamin Christian Church in Des Moines. They made their home in Marion. While in Marion, they also operated a farm in Lucas County near Russell for several years. The couple then moved to Buck Creek in Union Township, Delaware County. They farmed near Buck Creek for many years. Elizabeth was a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church, and previously First United Methodist Church at Marion. She had been active in the UMW and as a Sunday school teacher.
Lyle preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2006. Her health caused her to move to the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2007.
