Wilson, Mary Elizabeth (Zook)
Mary Elizabeth (Zook) Wilson, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Private family services will be at a later date. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Survivors include three brothers, Raymond Zook of Cedar Rapids, Earl “Jim” Zook of Gillette, Wyo., and David Zook of Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Susan Zook of Gillette, Wyo., Carol Kiernan of Mount Vernon, and Rita Zook and Jean Zook, both of Cedar Rapids; her stepchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Mary was born Dec. 6, 1939, the first child of Edwin and Mary (Morris) Zook. She was in the first graduating class of Jefferson High School. Mary retired from the City of Cedar Rapids after driving city bus for over 30 years.
She was very creative when it came to crocheting, knitting, and sewing. making gifts of hats, quilts and wall hangings for family, friends, and as donations.
Preceding her in death include her parents; and husband, Charles O. Wilson, who died in 2003.
Mary became special in the hearts of those who helped care for her at Silver Pines, Promise House, and the Hiawatha Care Center.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
