Wilson, Ida 'Irene'
Ida “Irene” Wilson, 94, of Swisher, went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Mercy Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Irene Wilson Memorial Fund, c/o The Swisher Trust and Savings Bank.
Irene was born in Trenton, Mo., on March 3, 1915, the daughter of Lewis and Nora (Still) Boon. She spent her childhood in Davenport and later graduated from Davenport High School. In 1959, Irene moved to Iowa City, where she resided until moving to Swisher in 1977.
For nearly 30 years, Irene owned and operated Wilson's Cleaning Service. She also was an executive housekeeper for Howard Johnson's, The Sheraton Hotel and the Ironmen Inn for 18 of those years. Irene was a determined lady who never shied away from hard work. She was also an extremely passionate woman who always put her family first. She cherished her children and grandchildren and would do anything for them or anyone else in need. In her spare time, Irene loved to crochet, knit, solve crossword puzzles and play on the computer.
Survivors include her children, Darlene Miller of Swisher, Carolyn (Robert) Clark of Valreco, Fla., and Robert (Jeannie) Robison of Franklin, Wis.; nine grandchildren, David, Debbie, Richard, Everett, Harold, Terry, Len, Kimberly and Richard Duane; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; one sister in infancy, Mildred Lorraine Hall; a son, Richard; two grandsons, Kelly and Robert; and a granddaughter, Marie.
The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at The Solon Care Center, especially Billy and Danni, who showed their mom great compassion and care during her time spent there.
Online condolences and memories may be left for the family at under obituaries.
