Wilson, Benny Dean
Benny Dean Wilson, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at his home. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three children, Bryan (Bob) Wilson of Chicago, Barbara (William) Morris of Hiram, Ga., and Doug (Angie) Wilson of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Emma and Benjamin Wilson; a brother, Donald (Dixie) Wilson of Urbana; and a sister, Julie (Bill) Stephens of Cedar Key, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene in 2004; and brother, Joe Wilson.
Benny was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Alburnett, the son of Franklin and Alyce (Stone) Wilson. He graduated from Olin High School and received his B.S. degree from Mount Mercy College. Benny served nine years in the Iowa Army National Guard. On Feb. 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Arlene I. Ames at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Benny worked as a model mechanic at Rockwell-Collins for 38 years, retiring in 1995.
Benny was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as longtime cubmaster of Pack 9 and scoutmaster of Troop 12, both in Cedar Rapids, and had earned his Wood Badge. He was a member of IBEW Local 1362 and First Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Benny's memory.
