WILMA CATHERINE SINGER
Manchester
Wilma Catherine Singer, of Manchester, passed away Aug. 15, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of Gustave Schade and Lillian (Huge) Schade. Wilma was raised near Stanley, Iowa, attending Lamont, Dundee and Stanley schools.
On Oct. 3, 1948, Wilma married Richard Singer and they lived in Manchester, where their four children were born. Self-employed, Wilma performed custodial work to provide for her family while spending many hours volunteering for her church and helping others.
In her retirement, Wilma moved to the Meadows independent living facility, where she played bingo and cards with friends, went on trips and continued volunteering and helping others where she found the opportunity.
Wilma is survived by her three daughters, Audrey (Larry) Carmichael of Corning, Sharon (Gary) Staton of Cedar Rapids and Sandra (Nicholas) Bingham of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with one the way; a brother, Herbert Schade of Walker; two sisters, Agnes McManigle of Baraboo, Wis., and Delores Bebensee of Pharr, Texas; and many friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Singer; three brothers, Donald, Robert and Mervin Schade; a son, Garry Singer; and a grandson, Michael Staton.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, located at 313 E. Fayette St. in Manchester, Iowa, on Saturday, Aug. 19. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Tony D. Ede officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery after the service. A luncheon will be provided at the church following the inurnment for all who wish to attend.
