Wilma "Eileen" Gieswein, 91, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Concordia, Kan., passed away on March 13, 2022, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.
Eileen was born March 15, 1930, in Freeport, Kan., to Merl and Wilma (Trigg) Salser.
She married William E. Gieswein on Feb. 22, 1951. Eileen graduated from the College of Emporia (Kansas) and obtained her teaching certification. She was an elementary school librarian in Concordia before retiring in 1992.
Eileen moved with her husband Ed to Maquoketa, Iowa in 1995. She enjoyed camping, quilting, sewing and reading, in addition to belonging to PEO and several church organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Ed" Gieswein; a son, Kent Gieswein; and brothers Everett Salser and Don Salser.
Those left to remember her are a daughter, Kathy Bodnar of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Dr. Kirk (Claudia) Gieswein of Coralville, Iowa; a daughter, Kay Oliver of Topeka, Kan.; grandchildren, Kenny (Jennifer) Bodnar, Joel (Jessica) Gieswein, Jared (Asia) Oliver and Allision Gieswein; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. (masks are preferred please)
Burial will be at a future date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City; the First Presbyterian Church of Concordia, Kan.; or the Alzheimer's Association.
