Willie Joseph Suchy was born March 22, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died unexpectedly at his home near Chariton Nov. 11, 2015.
Willie graduated from HLV Community School in
1975, received his B.S. degree at Iowa State University, his M.S. degree at the University of Wyoming, and was currently working on his Ph.D. at Iowa State University.
Willie worked for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for over 30 years, managing deer and turkey populations, first as a wildlife technician, then a wildlife biologist. He was currently a wildlife research supervisor. He was a part-time adjunct professor at Simpson College for 28 years, teaching statistics and math.
Willie grew up near Blairstown and Victor, Iowa, on his father's farm, spending much of his time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hiking and observing nature.
Willie is survived by his wife of 31 years, Anna; stepsons: Aaron (Christina) Wiseman, and their children, Michael, Jennifer, Tyler and Harlan; Shawn (Bryony) Wiseman, and their children, Andrew and Amy; Patrick Wiseman; and Nicholas Wiseman, and his son, Lloyd; father, Wilfred D. Suchy; brother, Mark Suchy (Steph), and their children, Taylor and Dean; sister, Babette Suchy; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Madonna Suchy, and infant brother, David Suchy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Fielding Funeral Home, Chariton. His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered outdoors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Anna Suchy to create a scholarship in Willie's name.
