Williams, Mattie Lorena
Mattie Lorena Williams, 86, of 4417 Council St. NE, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at home due to chronic health issues. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Danley of Cedar Rapids, Betty Garrett (Steve Jones) of Mesquite, Texas and Sharon (Daryl) Zweigle of Walker; two sons, Robert and Dennis, both of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Paine of Minnesota and Opal Inman of California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Mary Crandall; and two brothers, Leslie and Dale Hemphill.
Mattie was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Toddville, the daughter of Cleveland and Grace (Topliff) Hemphill. She married Ralph J. Williams on Nov. 18, 1945, in Charles City. He died in 1990. Mattie enjoyed baking, crafts, crocheting, and playing the organ as well as the Hawaiian guitar.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her friends and beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Luke's Hospital in Mattie's name.
