Williams, Charlotte L.
Charlotte L. Williams, 84, longtime Coralville and Iowa City resident, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where there will be a time of visitation one hour before these services on Monday. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Charlotte Louise Hughes was born June 30, 1927, in Iowa City, the daughter of David Webster Hughes and Anna Frances (Cerny) Hughes. She was a City High School graduate and had attended cosmetology school. For a time she owned and operated her own beauty salon in Iowa City, then began a career at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1965. Here she worked a short time in housekeeping, and many years as a telephone operator, retiring in 1990.
Her family includes her three children, Jonny Williams (Julie) of Iowa City, Carl Williams (Charlene) of Coralville and Diana Perez (Matthew Kocuba) of Port Lucie, Fla.; five grandchildren, Bryan Williams of Iowa City, Michelle Williams-Jones (Jason Jones) of Swisher, Randi Shannon (Jason) of North Liberty, Christian Williams of Omaha, Neb., and Eric Perez of Port Lucie, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Ricky, Nicholas, Justin and Benjamin Shannon; and one sister, Loretta Angerer of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Earl Williams; two brothers and two sisters.
