Williams, Allen
Allen Williams, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed on, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be noon Saturday, July 30, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, located at 2531 42nd St. NE. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Allen was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Lyndon, Ala., to the late Eugene and Flora (Hopkins) Williams. He married Queenetta Mollette on Dec. 23, 1958, in Mobile, Ala. Allen and Queenetta moved to Cedar Rapids in 1966. He worked at Quaker Oats for 29 years before retiring in 1997. Later in life, Allen reaffirmed his relationship with the Lord.
Allen leaves behind his devoted wife of 53 years, Queenetta; his loving children, Cheryle McGinnis of Alabama, Debra Hughes of Cedar Rapids, Lorenzo Williams of Indiana, Lester Williams of Cedar Rapids, Donald (Deborah) Williams of Hiawatha, Donna (Kevin) Flanagan of Cedar Rapids and Tynissa Williams of Phoenix, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Eugene (Barbara) Williams and Evielean (William) Thomas; sister-in-law, Pastor Emma Jean Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and John Henry; and four sisters, Margorie, Reola, Eloise and Frozene.
Allen was affectionately known as “Big Al” to his family and friends. He loved to fish, cook, play bingo, and spend time with his family.
