WILLIAM "BILL" WEIRATHER

William "Bill" Weirather, 86, of Marion, died early Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, following a brief illness. Visitation will be held at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, on Tuesday from
4:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Middle Catholic section of Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Bill was born July 27, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Philip "PJ" Weirather and Viola Fischer Weirather. He graduated from Keokuk High School, Class of 1948.
Bill worked as a machinist for 30 years at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, where he retired in 1989. He then started a career as a bus driver for Cedar Rapids Community Schools and Holy Family Schools for a total of 20 years.
He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids before his return to Marion.
Bill was an avid Hawkeye fan, enjoyed NASCAR, bowling, playing cards with family, and he loved to travel to Hollywood, Fla., to relax in the sun on the beach. He was a handyman extraordinaire, fixing everything from cars to curling irons!
He is survived by his wife, Marty (Howell) Weirather of Marion; his son, Shawn and wife Jen of Elburn, Ill.; his daughter, Cathy of Seattle, Wash.; his son, Steve and wife Elaine of Newhall; his son, Kenny and wife Leslie of Lisbon; and his daughter, Debbie of Colorado Springs, Colo. Bill also is survived by his grandchildren, Philip, Joe, Randi, Katie, Cody, Kristi, John, Michelle, Jamie, Maggie and Ethan; and his great-grandchildren, Braxton, Brynlee, Brantley, baby Sage, arriving in October, and baby Bassett, arriving in August.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Philip; mother, Viola; brother, Harry; and son-in-law, Brent Sage.
