WILLIAM WARD
Monti
William L. Ward, 58, of Monti (rural Coggon), died peacefully Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a two-year battle with cancer.
William (Bill, to his family), who liked to be called "Willie" by his friends, was born Nov. 24, 1956, to Joseph and Mary Ann Heiring Ward. Bill was raised on the family farm near Troy Mills, Iowa, the oldest of eight children. He was a 1975 graduate of North Linn Community Schools.
Bill worked at many things in his life. From an over-the-road trucker to construction work, he lived in many different areas of the country. Bill was especially proud of his time working in the Gulf of Mexico oil fields as a captain on a supply ship.
Bill never married, but loved his family and many nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ann Fangman of Coggon; a sister, Mary Joann (Jeff) Ver Heul of Los Altos, Calif.; brothers, Dennis Ward of Jefferson, Charlie (Peggy) Ward of Ryan, Frank (Shelia) Ward of Asbury, Paul (Roxy) Ward of Scaumburg, Ill., and Matt (Angie) Ward of Troy Mills; and 29 nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Joseph; and his youngest brother, Andy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti, with Father Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Music provided by Janet Fangman and Kathy Wulfekuhle. Casketbearers will be his brothers and sister, Mary Joanne Ver Heul, Dennis Ward, Charlie Ward, Frank Ward, Paul Ward and Matt Ward. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Monti. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Monti Community Center and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Monti. There will be a Scripture service on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Monti Community Center.
A memorial fund is established and can be left at the visitation and wake or directed to the family.
