William "Bill" Waite,
91, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, formerly of Toledo, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at the Iowa Veterans Home. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
William was born June 18, 1923, in rural Toledo, Iowa, the son of Edward B. and Elizabeth (Cooper) Waite. He was a graduate of Tama High School in 1940 and was drafted into the Army in 1943. William served his country three years in France and Germany. He met his wife, Rosaline Strojek, in Germany and was united in marriage on May 17, 1946. They came back and made their home in Eldora and Marshalltown, with the more recent years in Toledo. He worked at Lennox Industries, retiring after 32 years.
William was a member of the Toledo American Legion, UAW and St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Rosie of Marshalltown; his children, Dan (Mary Jane) Waite of State Center, Kenny (Teresa) Waite of Lakeland, Fla., Larry Waite of Toledo, Patty (John) Baker of Marshall-town, Tom Waite of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Steve (Donna) Waite of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three siblings, Bob (Mary) Waite of Goodell, Richard (Bonnie) Waite of Rosebud, Ark., and Donna Plotz of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one child, Stanley; one great-grandchild; one brother, Edward E. Waite; one sister, Carolyn Rozenberg; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Waite; two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Veronica Waite; and two brothers-in-law, Dennis Rozenberg and Jerry Plotz.
A memorial fund has been established.
