William D. Travis, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Cottage Grove Place. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Gayle Wilcox will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his son, Steve of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Travis of Eden Prairie, Minn.; two grandchildren, Sarah and Abby; three nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Bill; and a brother, Keith.
Bill was born April 30, 1926, in Stuart, the son of Lloyd and Fern Guyett Travis. He graduated from Woodbine High School and later proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He married Betty J. Gottsch on June 2, 1950, in Omaha, Neb. Betty passed away in 2008.
Bill was senior vice president of marketing at Life Investors and later went into sales until his retirement in his mid-80s. He was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, Masons, Tuesday Noon Optimists and Elmcrest Country Club, where he had been on its board of directors.
Bill was an avid golfer and won several tournaments. He enjoyed bowling, watching the Hawkeyes and financially supported the University of Northern Iowa.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation in Bill's name.
