William F. "Bill" Reed, 86, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Keystone Nursing Care Center. Bill's body was donated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Victory Baptist Church, 703 Water St., Center Point, with Pastor Larry Daubs officiating. Bill and his wife, Shirley, will be interred together at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton at a later date.
Bill was born June 30, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, to William Everett and Elsie Ruth (Hartson) Reed. He was united in marriage to Shirley Gillespie and they shared 58 wonderful years together. Shirley preceded him in death on June 26, 2012.
Bill was a member of the American Legion, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950. He worked for Collins Radio for many years.
Bill is survived by his children, William (Debra) Reed of Wisconsin, Christopher (Pat) Reed of Colorado, Linda (Kermitt) Tietz of New Mexico, David Reed of Vinton and Shirley Reed of New Mexico; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce Gorsuch of Barnes City.
Phillips Funeral Home is assisting Bill's family.
