William R. "Bill" Nelson, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at home. Funeral
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Cedar
Memorial Park Chapel
of Memories. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bill was born June 16, 1931, to Howard and Gladys (nee Whitscell) Nelson in Omaha, Neb. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. On June 21, 1958, Bill married Barbara Bolton in Strahan, Iowa. He worked as a pharmacist at Paramount Pharmacy and Hy-Vee Drug Town until his retirement in 1996.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Dave (Patricia) Nelson of Skokie, Ill., Jeff (Laura) Nelson of Des Moines and John (Myra) Nelson of Eagan, Minn.; grandchildren, Joel Nelson of Skokie, Ill., Matt and Jenny Nelson of Des Moines and Mia and Emma Nelson of Eagan, Minn.; two sisters, Charlotte (Ed) Hazuka of Omaha, Neb., and Beth Anderson of Dunedin, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
William was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Visiting Nurses Association of Linn County.
