William C. Much, 75, of Newhall, went home to our Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital
in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at
St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the church, with the Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery with full military rites conducted by John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post 67, Benton County 40 & 8 Voiture 625 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. A lunch will follow at the church. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Born June 25, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Alvin and Irene (Thomas) Much. On Nov. 20, 1971, he married Susan Kay Grovert in Rockton, Ill.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Burlington. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967, then worked as a self-employed contractor until his retirement.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall; John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post 167, where he was past post commander; and the 40 & 8. He served on the Newhall City Council for over 30 years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sue; daughters, Nicole (Jeremy) Langerman of Atkins, Iowa, and Melissa Much (Xavier Koenig) of New Haven, Conn.; grandchildren, Jordan and Austin McFarland, Benjamin Langerman and Sebastian, Genevieve and Dominic Koenig; siblings, Donna Miller, Shirley Simms, Daryl Much and Jackie (Everett) Sapp; in-laws, Don and Joan Grovert; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers in childhood; sister, Helen Barnes; and brother, Loren Much.
Bill truly loved time spent with family and friends, fishing, bowling, the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. John Lutheran Church, John Ward McGranahan American Legion Post 167, Newhall First Responders and Iowa Donor Network.
