William Ledvina, 90, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Compass Memorial Health Center, Marengo. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service.
A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his children, Kenneth and Brenda, both of Marengo; three brothers, Stanley, Gene and Richard; and two sisters, Mary Ann and Charlene; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Joseph and Agnes Herik Ledvina; his wife, Nada, in 2003; a sister, Esther; and a brother, Ed.
William was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Charles Joseph and Agnes (Herik) Ledvina. William attended the Irving schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. William and Nada Rasmussen were married in 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home near Elberon. William farmed for many years, and worked for Solar Homes in Marengo, the elevator in Garwin and the Amana Woolen Mill. He also helped on a dairy farm for a few years.
He enjoyed going for walks and spending time with his family. William especially loved a "good meal".
