WILLIAM "DEAN" JONES
Manchester
William D. "Dean" Jones, 90, of Manchester, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
He was born March 21, 1924, in Manchester, the son of William David and Blanche (Traver) Jones. Dean was a 1942 graduate of Manchester High School. He served honorably as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a POW for over a year. Dean received the Purple Heart medal for his service.
After returning from the service, Dean attended and graduated from the University of Dubuque. He then resided in Des Moines and worked as an under-writer for an insurance company. While working there, he met his future wife. On Sept. 2, 1951, Dean was united in marriage to Ruth Clague in Winterset. Two daughters were born to this union. In 1971, they moved to Manchester and Dean became a partner with the Howard-Wiltse Insurance Agency.
Dean was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dean's interests included photography, woodworking and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth; his two daughters, Paula (Larry) Cole of Manchester and Marla (Ed) Wulfekuhle of Delhi; five grand-children, Kelly Cole (Kim Steffen), Sara (Barry) Eike, Travis Cole (Kari Leytem), Mikaela (Larry) Troester and Brianne Wulfekuhle (Jonathan Neat); six great-grandchildren, Lexi, Carley, Hannah, Kourtney, Madison and Keegan; and one brother, Leland (Peggy) Jones of Winnebago, Ill.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Robert; and one half sister, Alberta Potter.

Funeral services, with military rites: 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, at the United Methodist Church, Manchester, by the Rev. Mike Druhl. Visitation: 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, with a Masonic service at 5 p.m. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
