William "Bill" C. Jess Jr., 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz., due to complications after surgery. Per Bill's wishes, his body was cremated. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; sisters, Tammy (Russ) Banks-Bailey of Waterloo, Sheryl (Jerry) Mosley-Gatewood of Wisconsin, Sharon (Jim) Mosely-Selix of Waterloo and Patricia Hawes of Florida; and brothers, Dave (Robin) Stapp of Texas and Brian (Trina) Pittman of Waterloo. Also surviving are six stepchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Virginia (Benham) Jess; sister, Dixie; daughter, Kim; and first wife, Mary.
Bill was born Aug. 28, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Bill was a project manager for Novak Plumbing and Heating until retiring in 2009.
He was a member of American Legion Post 298, VFW and Elks Club. Bill enjoyed golfing, traveling, wintering in Arizona, bingo, fun trips to the casinos and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
