William Joseph Hurych, 61, of Fairfax, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family until 8 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
William was born Aug. 8, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Francis and Marion (Janeshek) Hurych. He was a 1974 graduate of Regis High School. He married Jeannine Ann Irish on Oct. 29, 1988. Together they had one daughter, Robyne Hurych. They divorced in 1994. William was vice president of the family business, Hurych Plumbing and Heating Inc., retiring in 2013.
William enjoyed a lifetime of boating on the Mississippi River. He loved being outdoors, hiking and traveling. He was an avid fan and proud shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. He also cheered on the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved life and lived it well. He will be missed by many.
Survivors include his daughter, Robyne Hurych of Cedar Rapids; soulmate of 23 years, Jacqueline Macke-Miller of Fairfax; stepson, Brett Miller of Des Moines; brother, Deacon Robert (Barbara) Hurych of Cedar Rapids; sister, Catherine (Rodney) Merta of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Marion Hurych; and brother, John Hurych.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for a remembrance bench along the Mississippi River may be directed to the family.
