WILLIAM M. GROVE
Marion
Dr. William M. Grove was born July 26, 1953, in Cedar Rapids. He died in Woodbury, Minn., on Sept. 1, 2017, by his own hand, having endured bipolar disorder for many years, and recently having been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and LaVonne Grove; and his sisters, Sue Bauer and Judy Grove.
Mourning his loss are his devoted wife of 42 years, Victoria Grove; his son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Deanna Kramer, and his grandchildren, Ariel and Julia Kramer, all of Woodbury; and his sisters, Margaret Grove of Cedar Rapids and Janet Grove of Cedar Falls.
Will graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1971, received his B.A. in philosophy, English, education and psychology in 1974 and his M.A. in counselor education from the University of Iowa in 1977. In 1983, the University of Minnesota awarded him a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. After serving as an assistant research scientist at the University of Iowa Department of Psychiatry, teaching as an assistant professor in both the psychiatry and psychology departments at the University of Minnesota, Will was appointed associate professor of psychology in 1993 and emeritus professor of psychology upon his retirement in 2016.
In addition to being a dedicated teacher, Will was an extremely prolific researcher and author.
A gathering will be held to honor his memory on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Grove home in Woodbury.
