Survivors include wife, Maryann; and two sons, Jon and Jeff, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.
Bill was born on Aug. 13, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Verle "Pete" and Helen (Schwab) Gnagy. He attended Roosevelt High School before entering the United States Air Force. Bill married Maryann Novy on April 8, 1961, in Cedar Rapids. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier, retiring after 35 years of service. Bill was a member of Cedar Rapids VFW Post No. 788 and Cedar Rapids American Legion Post No. 727.
Bill enjoyed going to the casinos with Maryann, especially to Tama. He also liked watching TV and was an avid Packers fan for over 50 years. However, his greatest love of all was family and friends and his time spent with them. Also during Bill's life he had many dogs and he loved each and every one of them.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hall-Perrine Cancer Center and Hospice of Mercy for their care and compassion they gave to Bill.
