William Eugene Hines, 74, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at home. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. Inurnment will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Center Point Cemetery in Center Point, Iowa, with full Military Honors.
William was born on September 10, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Burnell Eugene and Emily Irene (Butters) Hines. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 until 1978, during the Vietnam War. On November 18, 1972, William was united in marriage to Sarah Hines in Cedar Rapids. After the Marines, he worked for Nash Finch and Hutchison Inc. before purchasing his own semi and going over the road for more than 30 years, retiring in 2022. William was a member of the American Legion, Wapsie Post 473 in Oxford Junction. He enjoyed operating his HAM radio and spending time fishing, camping, and riding his motorcycles and ATVs, anything that let him feel the “wind in his face.” William liked telling stories and treasured friends and family gatherings. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
William is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Sarah; children, Brian Hines of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Hines (Todd Willard) of Anamosa, Iowa, and Robert Hines of Oxford Junction; sisters, Marlis Benedict of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Hines of Marion, Nadene Reece of Urbana, Iowa, and Debbie (Chad) Wright of Marion; brother, Dean (Angie) Hines of Center Point, Iowa; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials in William’s memory may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or the family.
