Funeral services for
William "Bill" Edward Diedrichsen, 92, of Tipton, who died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the First United Church of Christ, Tipton. The Rev. David Lorenzen will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery, Tipton.

Bill was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Tama County, Iowa. He was the son of Edward Theodore and Agnes Anna Michelsen Diedrichsen. Bill received his bachelor's degree with majors in math and science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1951 and later his master's degree in school administration, with a minor in zoology and a specialist degree in School Administration from the University of Iowa. On Aug. 1, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to Margaret Jean Ramer in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Bill served in the Army Air Force during World War II where he was a combat crew member on a B-29 Bomber. He was an elder of the First United Church of Christ, a 50 year plus member of the Lions Club, Walt Whitman Club for School Administrators, Tipton Golf and Country Club, Iowa State Education Association and served as past president of the Iowa Association of School Administrators.
He was a teacher, principal and retired as the Tipton Community School Superintendent in 1993, after 42 years with the Tipton School District. Upon retirement, Bill said, "A good school system, staffed by good people, with a good board of education and a long range plan for the future makes leaving easier."
Bill is loved and survived by his wife, Margaret Diedrichsen of Tipton; daughter, Ann Diedrichsen of Cedar Rapids; and sons, Michael (Carol) Diedrichsen of Chatham, Ill., and Steven Diedrichsen (Ellen) of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray, Harvey and Clarence; and sisters, Luella and Rosa.
