William Walker Davis, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Iles Westover Chapel, Des Moines, with a reception to follow. Private family burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Bill was born May 12, 1940, in Pittsfield, Ill., to Lewis and Evelyn (Walker) Davis. He was a graduate of Coe College in Cedar Rapids and moved to the Des Moines area in 1972. Bill worked for Bankers Trust Co. for 21 years, retiring as vice president of private banking in 2009.
Bill dearly loved his many grandchildren, enjoyed life with family and his many friends, jazz music, traveling, biking and especially his lifelong passion for tennis.
He will definitely be missed; his smile would light up a room.
Bill is survived by his four sons, Bill (Kate) Davis of Melbourne, Fla., Michael Davis of Iowa City, Timothy (Trisha) Davis of Des Moines and Benjamin (Amy) Davis of Davenport; daughter, Dee Anne (Andy McCarthy) Davis of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; 11 grandchildren, Austin, Drake, Aidan, twins Sophia and Ella, twins Isabel and Xavier, twins Bella and Devon, Zoe and Miles; his devoted companion, Karen Sue Cordes of Clive; four brothers, Ted (Betty) Davis of Long Beach, Miss., Russell Jackson of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth (Andrea) Jackson of Cedar Rapids and Kevin (Dawn) Jackson of Cedar Rapids; ex-wives, Barbara Davis of Oakland, Calif., and Judy Davis of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother, Lewis.
