WILLIAM "BILL" BYS JR.
Mount Vernon
William E. "Bill" Bys Jr. of Mount Vernon passed away May 22, 2015, in Moscow, Russia. He was on a trip with a longtime friend to visit Vietnam.
Bill was born Sept. 6, 1950, in Cedar Rapids to
William E. and Margaret Ruth (Petrak) Bys.
Bill served in the U.S. Army, first with the 82nd Airborne, and then with the 173rd Airborne in Vietnam.
He spent the remainder of his working career with Iron Workers Local 89, and was always involved in many projects.
He is survived by a brother, Carlyle Bys, Bertram; sisters, Thiara Smith, Bettendorf, Barbara Michael, San Antonio, Texas, and Ramona Thompson, Austin, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established at Hills Bank, Mount Vernon.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
