William Killian Zinkula was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Iowa City, the son of George and Mabel (Killian) Zinkula. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. Returning from service, he married Phyllis Jean Coulter on July 12, 1947, in Iowa City. For nearly 40 years, Bill worked as a painter in the physical plant at the University of Iowa.
Bill and Phyllis enjoyed traveling and playing cards, especially euchre. Bill was a member of the VFW and many local bowling leagues over the years. He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and cheering on his Chicago Cubs, whether through the radio, TV or, best of all, in Chicago with other family members. But most dear to him were his family and friends!
His family includes his children, Steve and his wife, Vicki Zinkula, and Jan Zinkula; grandchildren, Lynnette Poula (Mitch), Wendy Bream and Todd Zinkula (Lisa); six great-grandchildren; and Bill's sister, Sybil Stafford (John).
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; granddaughter, Lisa Bream; and brother, George Zinkula.
