William “Bill” Roy Zaruba, 97, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025, at West Ridge Care Center. A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Friday, April 4, 2025. The service will follow the visitation and begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Bill was born February 16, 1928, to William and
Mabel (Stanek) Zaruba in Cedar Rapids. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Iowa and was a very proud Hawkeye. He married Vivian Harris on July 24, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. Bill and his brother, Jack, worked at Cherry Burrell as Engineers for many years, following in the footsteps of their father.
He enjoyed watching sports, going to the casino, playing league golf and bowling, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bill loved his nieces and nephews and treated them like they were his own kids.
Bill is survived by his nieces and nephews, Larry (Karon) Schladetzky, Janet (Dave Helmuth) Williams, Teresa (Clif) Bosler, and Danny (Ann) Schladetzky.
He is preceded in death by wife, his parents, and his brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Legion Post #298 of Marion.
