William "Bill" Bruce Lonergan-Highley, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away due to COVID-19 complications on Nov. 13, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date when COVID-19 is no longer a health threat.
Bill was born Aug. 24, 1933, to Ernest and Daisy (Clark) Highley in Anamosa, Iowa, the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. After serving in the military, he returned to Cedar Rapids, attended Coe College, and began a long career at Rockwell Collins. He married his wife, Jane, on Nov. 23, 1979.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane; his sister, Dona Anthony; five children, Matt (Jeannie), Pam Kopp (Tom), Cheryl Kloepping (Hans), Robert (Lisa) and Ken (Stephanie); sister-in-law, Jeanne Harrinton; brother-in-law, Dale Harrington; sister-in-love, Ginny Dougherty; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Robert, and seven of his siblings.
A special thank you to the 4th floor staff at Mercy Medical Center and the many friends and family members who helped during these challenging times.
Memorials in Bill's name may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, the Linn Community Food Bank or Prairewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center.
