WILLIAM "BILL" HUGHES CARMICHAEL

William "Bill" Hughes Carmichael, 84, of West Okoboji, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021. He was born Dec. 15, 1936, to Albert Charles and Madora Hughes Carmichael. He graduated from Pocahontas High School
and The University of Iowa with a BSC and JD in 1961. A born and bred Iowa Hawkeye fan, he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and wrote for the Iowa Law Review. Feb. 4, 1961, he married the love of his life Judith Ann Croft. Bill was a Captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corp from 61-64. He moved to Cedar Rapids and lived there until 2005. Judy and he specialized in girls and had four daughters. He practiced law for 41 years and was a member of the St Paul's United Methodist Church, President of Jaycees, Board Positions for Grant Wood AEA, YMCA, Camp Fire Girls, member of the Exchange Club and many other organizations.
In 2005, they retired to West Okoboji. Bill enjoyed church related activities, exercising/socializing at the YMCA, reading on the dock, watching/coaching every Hawkeye sporting event, Rotary, and hosting family and friends.
His family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his lovely wife, Judy, of nearly 60 years; daughters, Julie Lynne Carmichael (Anthony Solimini), Surprise, Ariz., Stacey Ann Carmichael, St. Louis Park, Minn., Tara Croft Carmichael (Kevin Kearns) Portland, Ore., and Holly Hughes Nicholls (Chad Nicholls), St. Louis Park, Minn. A dedicated 'Bumpa' loved his five grandkids Luke, Ellie, Billy, Anna and Max.
