WILLIAM "BILL" HENDERSON SR.
Cedar Rapids
William "Bill" Henderson Sr., a World War II veteran of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Oct. 5, 2018, at the VA Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., at the age of 95. Memorial gathering of remembrance: Noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Bill was born May 15, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William Henderson and Jessie (Puckhaber) Klett. After graduating from Wilson High School, he worked as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) before joining the U.S. Army Air Forces. Bill worked for FMC, formerly Link-Belt Speeder, before retiring after 42 years. After his retirement, he worked for Greyhound pickup and delivery service and Henderson Construction. Bill lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids before moving to Arizona.
Bill was a member of the Eagles Club and Moose Lodge for many years. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, bowling and playing with his dogs, Willy and Harley.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Buck) Schneider of Cedar Rapids; son, Denny Henderson, also of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Mary Ann Cissna of Green Valley, Ariz., and Karen Lund of Atlanta; brother, William G. Klett of Fairfax Station, Va.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Henderson Jr.; brother, John M. Henderson; and grandson, Shane Burlingame.
