WILLIAM "BILL" GEORGE GIBNEY

William "Bill" George Gibney, 94, of Fairfax, Iowa, was a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and a friend. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Dec. 10, 2021.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Murphy. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen
Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Bill was born in Covington, Iowa, and was the son of William and Mayme Gibney. Bill married the love of his life, Jeanne Schulte, on June 23, 1953, and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. He was proud to have served his country in the Korean conflict, and was a member of the Pekomy American Legion Post 572 and VFW Post 788. Bill's lifetime career was a building contractor.
Bill's outgoing personality brought smiles to everyone he met, whether coaching Little League, playing cards, watching fireworks, or traveling with friends. His faith, family and friends brought him his greatest joy.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his three sons, Greg (Joyce), Bart (Toni) and Jeff (Mary); six grandchildren, Matt and Chad, Ryan and Lindsey (Garrett), and their mother, Cheryl Gibney, Blake and Grant; and one brother, Mike (Ronda).
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jo; and brothers, Larry and Dean.
Bill's Irish wit, smiling blue eyes and gentle ways will be remembered and treasured by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill's name to support the Fairfax Fire Department's annual fireworks display. Please send to Fairfax Fire Department, Fairfax State Savings Bank, P.O. Box 277, Fairfax, IA 52228.
