William "Bill" Edwin Volesky, 77, of Swisher, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with Fr. Ken Glaser presiding. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
William was born Nov. 29, 1940, in Iowa City, the son of Edwin and Eleanor (Povonder) Volesky. He was in the first graduating class from Prairie High School in 1959. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Karen Shields on May 7, 1966, in Cresco. Bill worked at T&K Roofing in Ely for over 44 years. He enjoyed woodworking, listening to polka music, attending his grandchildren's events and spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Lori (Mark) Huenefeld of Rowley, Jeff Volesky of Marion and Steve (Julie) Volesky of Alburnett; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Volesky of New York and David Volesky of Wellman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Brian Volesky; and a great-granddaughter, Skylar Volesky.
