William F. "Bill" Bascom, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at Prairie Hills Senior Living. Services with Masonic rites will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Scott (Lori) of Marion; and a daughter, Teresa (Doug) Chase of Madison, Wis.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chad, Lauren, Emily, Zachary, Aaron, Anna and Matthew; and nine great-grandchildren.
Bill was born Nov. 6, 1923, in rural Linn County the son of Verle and Dorothy Weeks Bascom. He married Maxine Gaines on Dec. 1, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. Maxine passed away in 1986. Bill later married Marilyn Haynes on Oct. 24, 1987, in Cedar Rapids. Marilyn passed away in 2013.
Bill worked in quality control at Rockwell Collins. He retired in 1982 after 33 years of service. He was a longtime member of Trinity St. James United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 25 and proudly served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II.
Bill enjoyed his comradery with friends and staff at Prairie Hills and his bowling companions. He will forever be remembered for his dedication to family, friends and country. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
