WILLIAM ARNOLD
Cedar Rapids
William Bruce Arnold, 75, of Beaverton, Ore., passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Bill was born March 15, 1939, in Algona, Iowa. He and his family soon moved to Moline, Ill., later to Buckhannon, W.Va., and ultimately to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he graduated from Franklin High School in 1957. After graduation, Bill and best friend Dave Bradley responded to the "call of the West" and moved to California. He spent the rest of his life living in either California or Oregon.
Bill worked many years for Apple Computer but then decided to become more independent by moving to Grants Pass, Ore., and purchasing and managing a Mailboxes Etc. franchise in Medford.
Bill was very musical and athletic. He loved tennis playing, watching, officiating, and playing his guitar. He and his wife, Judy, enjoyed their membership at Sunset Athletic Club. He was a gifted engineer, putting his expertise and knowledge to work in restoring numerous British cars.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy Arnold of Beaverton; brother, John Arnold of Ruther Glen, Va.; sons, Robert (wife Lisa) of Wildomar, Calif., and Bradley (wife Leah) of Yorba Linda, Calif.; granddaughters, Hannah, Ava and Sofia; two nieces; and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Elaine Arnold; sisters, Georgia Jean (Georgene) Galley and sister Carolyn Sue (Susie) Arnold.
A Gathering to Celebrate Bill's Life is planned for later this month at Judy and Bill's Beaverton home. The best honor friends can pay to Bill would be to savor each moment of life, pursuing with passion what you enjoy and cherishing those you love.
