William Alan "Doc" Sunlin, 84, of Marion, Iowa, died Thursday, March 6, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Antioch Christian Church in Marion. A celebration of life will follow at the church where the family will greet friends. Private inurnment at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
William was born on August 28, 1940, in Moline, Illinois, to William R. and Mildred C. (Lindstedt) Sunlin. He graduated from Moline (Illinois) High School in 1958. William attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1965. On May 1, 1965, he married Phyllis Jean Wilson in East Moline, Illinois. William dedicated his career to chiropractic care, in Anamosa until his retirement in 2014. William was a devoted member and volunteer at Antioch Christian Church in Marion. He was also a committed member of the Brain Injury Board, advocating for those affected by brain injuries. He loved the game of golf and was a junior golf coach at the Wapsipinicon Golf Club in Anamosa for many years. William enjoyed following NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Sunlin of Marion; children, William T. Sunlin of Anamosa, Stacey (Sean) Finn of Savage, Minnesota, David (Darcy) Sunlin of Monticello, Iowa, and Mathew Sunlin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Will, Dillon, and Shelby Sunlin, Jane (Eric) Cushing and Emma Finn (fiancé, Zach Chambers), Olivia Sunlin (Ryan Kelchen), Alaina, and Marcus Sunlin, and Mandy Brislawn (Anthony Rickard); eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tom Sunlin of Rock Island, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa or Antioch Christian Church in his honor.
