William A. “Bill” Nelson, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023. A visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A graveside service with Military Honors will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Bill was born Jan. 21, 1934, in De Soto, Wis., the only child of August and Clara (Pfeiffer) Nelson. He attended school in Wisconsin. Bill served honorably in the United States Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage to Darlene Ann Brummer on Oct. 11, 1958, in Waukon, Iowa; she passed away in 2013. Bill worked as a welder for the local UAW Union. He was a member of the local Union. Bill later married Darlene Marie Brundidge-Fleming on Sept. 12, 2020, in Cedar Rapids; she passed away in 2021.
Bill is survived by his grandson, Johnathan (Brianna) Fleming of Cedar Rapids; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Darlene A.; second wife, Darlene M.; and two sons, Jeffrey and Scott Nelson.
