Willert, Mildred L.
Mildred L. Willert, 95, of Oxford Junction, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Clarence Nursing Home in Clarence. A celebration of her life service will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 3, at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.
Mildred Louella Fritz was born March 27, 1916, in Jones County, Iowa, daughter of Martin and Anna (Pegorick) Fritz. She married Lyle H. “Bumps” Willert on Dec. 12, 1932, in Anamosa. He died Jan. 12, 2005.
Mildred was a homemaker. In earlier years, she worked at Fran's Cafe in Oxford Junction as a cook and waitress. She was a member of Oxford Junction United Methodist Church, Oxford Junction American Legion Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge.
Mildred enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.
Mildred is survived by three children, Lauren Willert of Davenport, Karen Sayre of Cedar Rapids and Robert Willert of Iowa City; a daughter-in-law, Julie Willert of Davenport; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Wanda; a son, Lyle Jr.; a granddaughter, Ann Countryman; a son-in-law, two sisters and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the Oxford Junction Fire Department or Oxford Junction United Methodist Church.
