Willene L. Collins, 85, of Onslow passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. A visitation will be held prior to her service from 9 to 11 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Wyoming Cemetery. Dawson Funeral Services of Wyoming is caring for her family.
Willene Louise was born on May 21, 1937, in Monticello at home to William and Elsie (Martensen) Hubner. She graduated from Monticello High School and later went on to earn her Accounting Degree from Kirkwood Community College. On Feb. 27, 1955, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Collins at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa. In her earlier years she worked at a Vet Clinic, the Onslow Locker and Doerr Emerson. She was the secretary at Zion American Lutheran Church for over 20 years. She was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church and the Onslow Cotton Club. She enjoyed having coffee and socializing. She liked fishing, playing cards, taking drives to see the countryside and playing scrabble. Willene loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, William (Jane) Collins of Waukon, Scott (Nancy) Collins of Wyoming, Douglas (Amy) Collins of Mount Vernon and Wendy (Dan) Jacobsen of Eldridge; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis (Charlie) Kirk of Eau Claire, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Evelyn; grandson, James Baty Collins; and a son-in-law, John “Jack” McGarry.
