Willard LaVerne Holtz, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at home, in his favorite spot, his sunroom. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Aug. 27, and visitation from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, all at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Burial: Campbell Cemetery, Bertram.
Willard is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Deb (Mike) Studt of Marion, Glori (Joe) Roman of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Jenifer) Holtz of Solon and Darcy (Bill) White of Shellsburg; grandchildren, Shelly, Ami, Brian, Shawn, Chace, Nicole, Kara, Abby, B.J. and Jari; and 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Willard was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Minnewaukan, N.D., to William and Mabel (Johnson) Holtz. He graduated from New Rockford Central High School in 1951 and Wahpeton State School of Science. Willard married Beverly Edinger on Oct. 30, 1953, at the First Congregational Church in New Rockford, N.D. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at Rockwell Collins as an electrical engineer, retiring in 1990 after 31 years.
Willard's great joys in life were playing billiards while wintering in Arizona, fishing at Devils Lake, North Dakota, and most importantly being with his family.
